My image, Johns Garden from the Layers series, was accepted into a Fall show called Roots, at Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have a particular fondness for this series as it feels, to me, to be a collaboration with my grandfather’s family.

Nine conversations at the Griffin

A group of nine artist, under the guidance of Aline Smithson, came together for this show. It was quite a privilege to be a part of this group.
“At our Nine Conversations exhibit, Julia Arstorp’s work examines the connection between the past and present and the complex intersection of family history, childhood memories, and personal narrative.

Channeling her unique experiences through her photography, such as the unexpected loss of a sister and her father’s state of mind during and after World War II, Arstorp maps out her life to cope within a world that feels out of order. “As I grow older, I feel more emotionally fragile in a conflicted world,” says the artist. “Photography is a way of deflecting that and focusing on the poetic beauty that surrounds us.”

I began working with Paper Connection when choosing materials for book making and for new more tactile paper for cyanotype printing. I subsequently was interviewed and featured as Artist of the month which was a huge honor. Check out the interview here.
